About us

Projection and silhouettes.Sensable Things has developed out of many years of digital art installation work carried out by artist Malcolm Buchanan-Dick. Malcolm has a passion for sharing his knowledge of technology and experience as an artist, with disabled artists.

As Sensable Things we aim to accomplish several objectives within the first 12 months:
Primarily to develop partnerships with arts organisations and individuals who can benefit from the work through the production of high quality digital art.
  • Research best practice in the field of accessible technology and digital art in the UK.
  • Research and develop the Keypod access device and create 2 similar devices.
  • Create a national database of technology and creative applications.
  • Plan a rolling digital arts project with young disabled participants who will benefit from an interactive environment.
  • Raise further funding for equipment, people and projects.
  • Develop our own artistic practice within the field of sculptural installation.
  • Develop a sustainable business plan for the future to include an online retail outlet for identified technologies.
  • Achieve National Centre of Excellence status over next 3 years.

Some members of Sensable Things are affected by a disability and trained in the arts. This gives us a deeper empathy for artists facing barriers that could be overcome through the application of technology.  We have previously worked with groups or individuals with disabilities, creatively enriching lives. Sensable Things will provide a vehicle through which its members can be passionate about art and disability, supporting them to apply their skills and expertise to empower disabled artists.
